Beijing, February 15 (Xinhua) Berkshire Hathaway, owned by Warren Buffett, increased its stake in Apple shares by more than $3 billion in the fourth quarter of last year, according to regulatory documents released on Tuesday.

Buffett's company bought 20.8 million Apple shares worth $3.2 billion (21.8 billion yuan) in the fourth quarter, increasing its stake to 5.8%, according to Buffett filings. Apple shares have soared nearly 18% this year. Apple remains Berkshire's largest position by market capitalization, although the value of that position fell by $7.4 billion over the same period.

At the same time, Buffett also partially reduced his holdings in Activision Blizzard, the developer of the call of Duty game. Today, Berkshire's Activision Blizzard shares have fallen 12.3 per cent to 52.7 million shares, or 6.7 per cent. Microsoft is working hard to complete the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Microsoft will defend the deal at a private hearing of antitrust officials in the European Union and its member states on February 21.

Paramount, an entertainment company, benefited the most from Berkshire's share purchases. As of December 31, Berkshire had bought another 2.4 million Paramount global shares, worth more than $40 million, according to the documents. By contrast, Berkshire sharply reduced its stake in BNY Mellon, reducing its stake by about 60 to 25.1 million shares. At current prices, the divestiture is worth nearly $2 billion.
