Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Beijing, February 17 (Xinhua) major US news media have begun to criticize artificial intelligence laboratory OpenAI and its chat robot ChatGPT, saying that the lab uses their articles to train ChatGPT, but does not pay.
"anyone who wants to use the work of a Wall Street Journal reporter to train artificial intelligence should be properly authorized by Dow Jones," Jason Conti, general counsel of ChatGPT News Corp.'s Dow Jones division, said in a statement. Dow Jones did not reach such an agreement with OpenAI. We take the problem of misuse of journalists' works seriously and are examining the situation. "
CNN, like the Wall Street Journal, believes that using its articles to train ChatGPT violates the network's terms of service, according to people familiar with the matter. CNN plans to approach OpenAI and ask OpenAI to pay for content licensing.
The concerns raised by the two news media followed a tweet by Francesco Marconi, a computing journalist, this week that the results of their work had been used to train ChatGPT. Marconi said he asked ChatGPT for a list of news sources and got a reply listing 20 media outlets.
According to the media list cited by ChatGPT, news organizations are not the first companies to question whether their content is being used by artificial intelligence systems. Last November, GitHub, Microsoft and OpenAI were indicted in one case. In this case, a computer programmer named Matthew Butterick alleges that a tool called GitHub Copilot, which automatically generates computer code, essentially plagiarizes the work of human software developers and violates their license terms.
In January, a group of artists sued artificial intelligence generators Stability AI, Midjourney and DeviantArt, alleging that the companies downloaded and used billions of copyrighted images without compensating or obtaining their consent.
OpenAI has not commented.
