CTOnews.com, February 18 (Xinhua) according to the European Union's latest digital services law (DSA), large technology companies, including Apple, Google and Twitter, must report their monthly user size to the European Union by February 17, 2023 local time.

The new DSA rules require companies with more than 45 million monthly active users to comply with audit, risk management and data sharing rules with the authorities.

Apple, Google, Meta and Twitter have all confirmed that they have exceeded the 45 million user threshold. Apple says only iOS App Store currently has more than 45 million users, but voluntarily reports the size of Mac, Apple Watch and Apple TV app stores every month in accordance with DSA regulations.

CTOnews.com translated an official statement from Apple as follows: "Apple is willing, on a voluntary basis, to report the size of users of all device platforms, including those that currently do not meet the threshold specified by VLOP, in accordance with the VLOP standards limited by existing DSA regulations. Apple recognizes and responds positively to DSA's policies to better protect consumers from illegal content."

Twitter reports that there are 100.9 million monthly active users in the European Union. Google's parent company Alphabet says the total number of monthly active users is 278.6 million for Google Maps, 274.6 million for Google Play, 332 million for Google search, 74.9 million for Shopping and 401.7 million for YouTube.
