CTOnews.com, February 20 (Reuters)-Vietnamese electric car maker VinFast said on February 18 local time that it would recall 2781 sports utility (SUV) models sold in Vietnam to check and replace bolts connected to front brake pliers and steering knuckles.

VinFast, which began operating in 2019, is preparing to expand in the US, hoping to compete with traditional carmakers. CTOnews.com has reported that it began shipping the first 999 VF8 vehicles in November last year and plans to deliver them this month.

In a statement, VinFast said: "due to specific assembly items, the bolts connecting the front brake pliers and the steering knuckle may become loose while the vehicle is running, which may reduce the effectiveness of the front brake."

In addition, VinFast noted that bolts would be tightened immediately for 999 VF8 vehicles destined for the United States. "this is a relatively simple procedure that can be completed quickly without affecting delivery time and is expected to begin at the end of February 2023."

Data show that VinFast delivered more than 4000 electric vehicles to users in Vietnam in December last year, more than half of which were VF8 sports utility vehicles. As of December last year, the company had received 55000 orders worldwide, of which 12000 came from the US market.
