CTOnews.com, February 20, China Telecom, together with Huawei and other industrial partners, recently completed the country's first RedCap test for the iron and steel industry in Shijiazhuang. The test results show that RedCap can meet the needs of business applications such as remote stacking and reclaiming, AI scrap grading, automatic identification of steel conversion, and driving video surveillance.

The test was jointly completed by China Telecom Hebei Branch, Ausen Iron and Steel Group, Tianyi 5G Internet of things Joint Open Lab and Huawei RedCap technical team. The test was first based on China Telecom 5G customized network commercial network, and verified the basic functions, service speed, delay, network coverage and other key contents of RedCap in the smart steel scene.

The 3GPP R17 standard codefinition RedCap (CTOnews.com Note: its full name is "Reduced Capability") is the key technology for medium-and high-speed IoT scenarios. By reducing the terminal spectrum bandwidth to 20MHz and using 1R or 2R receiving antennas, RedCap can greatly reduce the price of 5G modules in the future, while inheriting the advantages of 5G network slicing and low delay; compared with 4G couplet technology, RedCap has intergenerational advantages, better performance and stronger functions, and there is a high demand for RedCap acceleration in the industry.
