CTOnews.com Angry Birds developer Rovio announced today that it will remove the original Angry Birds game from Google Play Store on February 23.

The announcement said:

We reviewed the business case for the original Angry Birds, and due to the impact of the game on the broader game mix, we decided to remove the original Angry Birds from the Google Play Store on Thursday, February 23.

Additionally, the game will be renamed Red's First Flight in the App Store pending further review. After the game is removed, the original Angry Birds will continue to play on downloaded devices.

We know this decision is sad news for many fans of the original Angry Birds. We are grateful to our fans, who have shown their love for the brand and the game from the start. We hope that these fans can continue to bring this passion to our current Angry Birds slingshot games, such as Angry Birds 2, Angry Birds Friends Edition and Angry Birds: New Adventure, with the goal of creating the best experience for players.

Angry Birds was first released in 2009, and then triggered a download boom in the mobile game market. It was once recorded in Guinness World Records as "the fastest mobile games in the world to reach 100 million downloads." It is a well-deserved "phenomenon-level" mobile game. Since its launch, it has launched several versions and is deeply loved by users. Although the game initially had only five bird species and few levels, it still became a classic in the hearts of many players.

CTOnews.com found that the original Angry Birds was removed from the app store as early as 2019, citing device compatibility issues. However, in 2022, Rovio launched a remastered version of Angry Birds, which is now available for download from stores, using Unity engine, still without in-house purchases and advertising.
