CTOnews.com, February 22, Microsoft today released the first preview version of .NET 8, and versions for Windows, macOS and Linux have been developed and downloaded. Microsoft plans to release new preview and candidate versions every month in the future, and the official version is expected to be released on the .NET Conf 2023 in November this year.

Native Ahead-of-Time (AOT)

This feature was introduced in .NET 7, which was released last year, but has been further improved in .NET 8. In the new version, the "Hello, World" application released through Native AOT has further shrunk to half the size of .NET 7.

.net Container Image

The Preview 1 version improves the way .NET applications use container images, updating the default Linux distribution to Debian 12 (Bookworm).

".NET 8 Preview 1 is the result of collaboration between Microsoft's diverse team of engineers and the highly involved open source community," Jeremy Likness, the chief project manager of .NET, said in concluding the post.
