It is reported that Hon Hai plans to expand Apple's iPhone assembly capacity in India, with a target of 2000 million units per year.

CTOnews.com March 5, according to the Wall Street Journal quoted senior Indian government officials and other sources pointed out that Hon Hai is considering a major expansion in India, including opening new plants and increasing the number of iPhone assemblies. Hon Hai plans to increase the annual production of assembled iPhone in India to 20 million by 2024, tripling the number of employees to 100000, according to people familiar with the matter. At present, the annual output of the factory is about 6 million iPhone.

In addition to Tamil Nadu, where Chennai is located, Hon Hai plans to set up a new production plant in Karnataka to assemble products such as iPhone, and is considering building a new plant in Hyderabad and a silicon carbide manufacturing and packaging plant for the semiconductor industry in India, according to people familiar with the matter.

Since 2017, Apple has moved some of its iPhone production lines to India to reduce its dependence on made in China. CTOnews.com noted that last year, for the first time, Apple began to make the latest iPhone 14 in India, a change from the previous precedent that India could only produce old Apple models. Morgan Stanley expects India to take on 25 per cent of apple's global production capacity by 2025.
