CTOnews.com, March 7 (Xinhua)-- according to IDC's latest forecast, global shipments of PCs and tablets will fall to 403.1 million in 2023, down 11.2 percent from a year earlier, and below the 429.5 million predicted by IDC's quarterly personal computing device tracking report (IDC Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker) in December 2022.

However, IDC expects 2024 to be a year of renewed growth, with shipments of PCs and tablets rising 3.6% from 2023 to 417.7 million units, exceeding pre-epidemic levels.

IDC believes that as consumers are no longer restricted by the epidemic and business orders for personal computers are almost completed, the PC market has sent a clear signal in the second half of 2022: end devices are no longer the priority, and 2023 will be the time to clear inventory and reprioritize.

IDC analysts pointed out that business demand was a bright spot in the forecast, as the mixed office model and the 1:1 school equipping program expanded the entire potential market. The impending end of Windows 10 support is expected to promote PC updates in 2024 and 2025, while Chromebook and Android tablets will benefit from educational deployment and updates. Although Apple's products have maintained steady and slow business growth in recent quarters, the company's lack of widespread adoption among commercial customers could cause it to lag behind other platforms over the next two years.
