CTOnews.com, March 9-Google's Chrome cleanup tool is used to scan computers for harmful software (UwS) that is causing problems with Google Chrome. It targets potentially harmful programs, malware, and adware extensions that can cause advertising and other accidental setting changes. However, starting with Chrome version 111, this feature will be turned off and will no longer be supported.

According to Google, the Chrome cleanup tool was launched in 2015 and has performed more than 8000 cleanups. However, there are several factors that led to Google's decision to stop using the tool. Over the years, user complaints about junk software have continued to decline. Windows security has also improved significantly since 2015, so that UwS can be detected and blocked before it is downloaded or installed into Windows PC. Google's secure browsing (CTOnews.com note: Google Safe Browsing), a new technology that prevents cookie from stealing, has also been improved.

Google said it would also remove components that regularly scan Windows devices and prompt users to clean up if suspicious content is found. Users will still be protected by Google's secure browsing feature on Chrome, which automatically blocks access to dangerous websites and file downloads. In addition, users can choose to enhance protection by navigating to chrome://settings/ security and sharing real-time data with secure browsing.
