CTOnews.com, March 9 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Epic Game Mall announced today that it will launch a self-release (Self-Publishing) feature that allows developers to build their own games directly on the store. CTOnews.com noted that this is the first time Epic Game Mall has launched such a feature, and previously only invited developers could publish games in the store.

The company's blog post outlines the steps developers need to take to add their games to the store through the Epic developer portal. To put it simply, developers need to sign up for an Epic account, pay $100 for each game, and then submit the game for review. Epic will reject games that contain specific content, such as porn, infringement, fake or malware, etc.

Compared with Valve's Steam service, Epic Games Store charges only 12 per cent of game revenue, while Steam can charge up to 30 per cent. In fact, developers can also choose to use other payment systems so that they can retain all revenue. If the game submitted to the store uses Epic's illusory engine, Epic will waive engine royalties as long as Epic's payment system is used for in-game transactions. In addition, if the game is also available in other PC stores (including Steam), any game that includes online multiplayer mode must support cross-platform online.

Through this move, Epic Games Store will undoubtedly add more games and be able to better compete with Steam. The biggest question is whether the platform can cope with the significant growth of its game library.
