NASA shows the space cup, which can easily drink coffee without gravity.

But now NASA seems to have cracked the code to enjoy coffee in space like on Earth, and they recently demonstrated that a futuristic space cup can do it.

According to NASA, the space cup is specially designed to use the principle of hydrodynamics to simulate the effect of gravity in space. The demo video shows astronaut Nicole Mann pouring coffee from a bag into a space cup. Even if she turns the cup upside down, the liquid does not spill from the cup.

According to CTOnews.com, the demonstration is part of NASA's capillary flow experiment, which has been working on the future space technology for more than a decade and was patented by astronaut Don Pettit with mathematicians Paul Concus and Robert Finns in 2011.

The agency said its specially designed cups "take advantage of the combined effects of surface tension, wetting and cup geometry" and do not depend on gravity, allowing astronauts to drink liquids easily. To do this, they only need to put their mouths on the narrow top of the space cup, and the coffee will be automatically sucked into their mouths because of capillarity.

Some common uses of antigravity capillarity are: water permeates the tissue when it is placed on the surface of the water, or water is transported upward through the roots of the plant. NASA hopes these studies will make it easier for astronauts to drink in microgravity and reduce the weight and size of liquid bags sent into space.

NASA believes that space cup design may also have potential applications on Earth, such as medical research and drug delivery.
