The latest reports show that Singapore is actively trying to persuade TSMC to invest in a 12-inch fab through a large number of incentives and subsidies.

Singapore has also had incentives to attract TSMC chip makers to set up factories there. According to industry insiders, Singapore's subsidies, including free land, water and electricity, as well as tax breaks and adequate human resources, are likely to persuade TSMC to build a 12-inch fab.

TSMC currently has a joint venture 8-inch fab in Singapore, which was built in 1998 with tripartite investment from TSMC, a company owned by NXP and the Singapore Economic Development Board, but in 2006, TSMC and NXP acquired a stake in the Singapore Economic Development Board, which became a joint venture between TSMC and NXP.

It is worth noting that in May last year, some foreign media reported that the wafer factories that had been put into production were mainly concentrated in TSMC in Asia and intended to build a new fab in Asia. At that time, it was mentioned that they were conducting preliminary negotiations with the Economic Development Board of Singapore on the construction of the plant.
