Saving thousands of pounds a year, startups use data center heat to heat the pool
CTOnews.com, March 14 (Xinhua)-- start-up Deep Green has launched an innovative service in the UK to install a washing machine-sized data center near the pool to heat the pool based on the heat it runs.
Touyuan: Mark Bjornsgaard, founder of deepgreen.energy, says this approach can heat the pool to 30 degrees Celsius during 60 per cent of the year, saving Exmouth Leisure Centre thousands of pounds a year.
The company has so far signed contracts with seven swimming pool facilities. The concept, which has been developed for five years, works by transferring hot oil through a pump to a heat exchanger and then heating the water in the pool.
Touyuan: Jane Nickerson, CEO of deepgreen.energySwim England, said she was pleased to see the pool "adopting innovative solutions". CTOnews.com learned from the BBC that 65 swimming pools in the UK have been closed since 2019, and rising energy costs are an important reason.
