Amazon's new distribution center in Sydney has been completed, with $2 million worth of murals installed on the exterior wall
CTOnews.com, March 15 (Xinhua) Amazon's "last kilometer" logistics distribution center in Sydney has been completed recently. The project, which cost US $66 million (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 454 million yuan), is located near the Victoria Airport Authority and covers an area of 7.8 acres (CTOnews.com Note: about 31565.46 square meters), known as the DVV2 distribution station.
The biggest highlight of the logistics distribution center is that the outer walls are equipped with unique murals. Amazon commissioned Vancouver-based Ombrae Studios, which is headed by Roderick Quinn, who grew up in Victoria, at a total cost of $2 million.
The exterior wall mural is made of tiles called "3D Optical Tiles" and is designed with perforated anodized aluminum panels. These tiles use punching and tilting to form the image, because sunlight and shadows help complete the image.
The exterior wall mural uses 595 tiles measuring 2 feet x 8 feet, and builds a 35-foot-high and 462-foot-long mural depicting mountains, forests and oceans. The whole mural area is 14000 square feet.
