Sources say Foxconn will produce Apple AirPods headphones for the first time and plans to build a new factory in India
Thank you, Mr. Air, a netizen of CTOnews.com, for your clue delivery! CTOnews.com, March 16 (Reuters)-Apple supplier Foxconn won an order to produce the AirPods for the first time, according to people familiar with the matter.
Foxconn will invest more than $200m (CTOnews.com) to build a new AirPods assembly plant in the southern Indian state of Terengana, a source said. Construction of the plant is expected to begin in the second half of this year and production will begin by the end of 2024 at the earliest.
According to the report, Foxconn debated for months whether to assemble the AirPods because of its relatively low profit margin, but they finally decided to proceed with the deal to "strengthen cooperation with Apple."
Sources pointed out that the decision to set up a factory in India was made at the request of Apple. In addition to its plant in Terengana, Foxconn plans to invest more in India to produce smartphones, electric cars and semiconductors.
