CTOnews.com, March 17 (Reuters)-the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued an order on Thursday to eight social media and video streaming companies, including Meta, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, Snap, Twitch, Pinterest and Instagram, requiring them to provide advertisements with information about how these platforms filter misleading content.

It is reported that these companies need to provide information such as advertising revenue and the number of views, including products and services that are more gullible.

FTC is seeking to review and restrict paid commercials that are fraudulent or expose consumers to fraudulent health care products, financial fraud, fake goods or other fraudulent practices.

"Social media has always been a gold mine for fraudsters, peddling counterfeit products and other scams that have taken a heavy toll on consumers in recent years," said Samuel Levine, director of FTC's consumer protection bureau. "this research will help FTC ensure that social media and video streaming companies do their best to keep fraudsters and fraudulent advertising away from their platforms."

CTOnews.com previously reported that as part of its investigation earlier this month, FTC also asked Twitter to hand over some internal communications related to owner Elon Musk, as well as other details about business decisions, which was issued after the order.
