The medal was awarded to Suzanne Lindbergh, a former Apple marketing executive, after Jobs returned to Apple in 2000. The medal is a special reward for people who have worked at Apple for 10 years. Lindbergh worked at Apple for 25 years. She left the company in 2013, where she was promoted to "Global Director of word-of-mouth Marketing," responsible for implanting products into Apple devices in movies and TV shows.

The medal bears Jobs' signature and an encouraging note: "We want you to continue to believe that, like us, the journey itself is the best reward."

The medal was sold by Moments in Time and is accompanied by a complete letter of authenticity from PSA / DNA, which specializes in the purchase and sale of signed original letters and other documents. The company said it was a unique collection of Apple history because Jobs later used a photocopy signature to present the anniversary award.

In addition to the medal, other rare items signed by Steve Jobs have been auctioned at high prices. In August, for example, an Apple II manual signed by Steve Jobs was sold for $787000. In December 2018, a time magazine cover signed by Steve Jobs sold for $174000.
