Samsung Motor has applied for 14 patents related to solid-state batteries
March 21 news, according to foreign media reports, Samsung's electronic parts supplier Samsung Motor (Samsung Electro-Mechanics) has applied for 14 patents related to solid-state batteries.
Solid-state batteries use solid electrolytes instead of the electrolytes currently used in commercial lithium-ion batteries. Compared with the traditional liquid lithium battery, it has excellent safety performance and good thermal stability.
Solid-state battery is considered to be the most promising technology for the next generation of electric vehicles, which is expected to greatly increase the range of electric vehicles and further shorten the charging time of electric vehicles in the future. but the cost of solid-state batteries has always been an insurmountable obstacle.
According to foreign media reports, the solid-state battery patents applied by Samsung Motor are mainly focused on ceramic solid electrolytes. The company pointed out in its patent application that ceramics are more stable than polymers.
In addition to Samsung Motors, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan and Toyota are all automakers that invest in solid-state battery technology.
Samsung Motor was founded in 1973, engaged in consumer electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, panels, home appliances and other businesses. In July 2022, foreign media reported that the company would replace LG Innotek as Tesla's largest supplier of camera modules.
