CTOnews.com March 21, the latest report released by security company Mandiant shows that hacker organizations exploited zero-day vulnerabilities in a large number of software in 2022. The company tracked 55 zero-day vulnerabilities actively exploited by hackers in the past year, the report said. Although this number is down from 88 in 2021, it is still much higher than in most previous years.

Unsurprisingly, software products made by Microsoft, Google and Apple were found to have the most zero-day vulnerabilities in 2022. According to the report, Microsoft had 18 zero-day vulnerabilities in 2022, followed by Google with 10 and Apple with 9. The report also pointed out that 13 zero-day vulnerabilities were exploited by cyber espionage organizations and 4 vulnerabilities were used by money-motivated hacker groups.

Mandiant predicts that the number of discoveries and exploits of such vulnerabilities will continue to rise in the long run.

CTOnews.com noted that just last week Microsoft fixed a serious zero-day vulnerability that affected Outlook software, which was used by a hacker group to attack several European government and military institutions in 2022.
