Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, March 28 (Xinhua)-- Apple announced today that its satellite emergency function has been extended to six European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Portugal. This service requires users to update to the latest iOS 16.4 system before it can be used in these countries.
The satellite emergency call function allows iPhone 14 series mobile phones to send text messages to emergency rescue centers via Globalstar satellite without cellular network or Wi-Fi signals. This service will be available free of charge for two years after activating iPhone 14, and for users in newly supported countries, the two-year period will begin today.
Apple said that in the newly supported countries, if a user dials the local emergency service number, but cannot get through due to no network connection, the system will automatically transfer to 112, the European unified emergency number.
Apple also reminds users that sending text messages can take a long time or fail because satellite signals may be affected by leaves or other obstacles, and in areas above 62 degrees north latitude, such as parts of Canada and Alaska, satellite connections may not be available.
According to CTOnews.com, the satellite emergency call function was first launched in the United States and Canada in November and is currently only applicable to four models: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The service was extended to France, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom in December.
