Apple Apple Watch watch new patent: watch band embedded electrode sensor, can monitor user gestures

CTOnews.com, April 7, according to a list published by the United States Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO), Apple recently obtained a patent for a watch on the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch described in the patent can detect and respond to tiny finger movements as well as user gestures.

The patent name is "electrode for gesture recognition" and the number is US 20230105223 A1. CTOnews.com learned from the patent description that electrodes are mainly embedded in the Apple Watch strap to monitor the user's gestures.

The patent summary reads: "the electrode sensor is embedded in the flexible strap of the wrist-wearing device and can be used to monitor user gestures. Multiple rows of electrodes can be configured to detect electromyography (EMG) signals from muscle and tendon activity. The strap can include removable electrical connections (such as spring pins) connected to the watch's processor for analysis."
