Beijing, April 14 (Xinhua) on Thursday, e-commerce giant Amazon joined the competition for artificial intelligence (AI) by launching its own generative AI service, Bedrock. Amazon CEO Andy Andy Jass said in an interview that a really good big language model takes billions of dollars and years of training.

▲ Jassi uses Bedrock, and Amazon's cloud service AWS will allow developers access to its own language model Titan, as well as the language models of startups AI21 and Google-backed AI company Anthropic. One Titan model can generate text for blog posts, emails, or other documents, while the other can help search and personalize.

"most companies want to use these large language models, but a really good language model costs billions of dollars to train and takes years, and most companies don't want to experience it," Jassi said in an interview on Thursday. "so what they want to do is work on a basic model that is already large and excellent, and then have the ability to customize it to their own purpose. this is Bedrock."

Amazon did not disclose the cost of the Bedrock service because it was just beginning with a limited preview. Users can be added to the waiting list, an Amazon spokesman said. Previously, Microsoft and OpenAI have announced the price of using GPT-4, starting at a few cents per 1000 "tokens". A token is equal to about four English characters. Google has not yet announced the pricing of its PaLM language model.
