New Development of AMD ROCm Open Software platform: coming to Windows system to support consumer graphics card

CTOnews.com, April 14, according to TechPowerUp, AMD today released new developments for its open software platform ROCm, ROCm is about to launch the Windows operating system, and AMD has extended ROCm support to consumer graphics cards, not just professional GPU.

According to the official website of AMD, AMD has brought ROCm support for Radeon RX 6900 XT, Radeon RX 6600 and R9 Fury GPU. Interestingly, of the three GPU, only R9 Fury has full ROCm support, RX 6900 XT has HIP SDK support, and RX 6600 only has HIP runtime support. And R9 Fury GPU has full ROCm support only on Linux, not Windows. The reason for this strange support remains to be discovered.

CTOnews.com learned on the AMD website that the AMD ROCm open software platform is built to provide excellent flexibility and performance, enabling the high-performance computing and artificial intelligence community to solve the daunting challenges facing the world today by accelerating code development with the help of a variety of open source computing languages, compilers, libraries, and tools.

The ROCm open software platform enables researchers to make full use of the AMD Instinct accelerator to promote scientific discovery. The ROCm platform is based on open portability and supports environments across multiple accelerator vendors and architectures. The AMD ROCm 5.0platform, powered by AMD Instinct MI200 Accelerator, supports a wider range of high-performance computing and artificial intelligence applications, provides developers with more ROCm support and access opportunities, and creates superior performance for critical workloads.
