CTOnews.com, April 18 (Xinhua) Apple's first patent for "fall detection" can be traced back to 20190103007, which was announced in 2018, and has been granted at least five related patents. According to the patent announced by the US Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO) last Thursday, Apple has once again obtained a patent for the "fall detection" function.

Nearly 1/3 of Americans over the age of 65 report falls each year, Apple said in the report. From 2007 to 2016, the mortality rate for adults aged 65 and over increased by 3% a year.

CTOnews.com learned from the patent that Apple uses sensors such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, barometers, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and global positioning systems (GPS) on devices such as the iPhone and Apple Watch to more accurately assess the quality and dynamic balance of a user's walking gait (walking steadiness, walking stability) and predict the risk of falling over the next 12 months.
