OTA updates lead to high-frequency recalls, and research shows that Tesla's 30-year recall rate will rank first.

CTOnews.com, April 19 (Xinhua) according to the latest research by automobile data analysis website iSeeCars, Tesla's vehicle has far more recalls than other brands in its expected 30-year service life. The study is based on ten-year recall data issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which is pro rata to 30 years, and calculates the recall probability of each model.

CTOnews.com noted that Tesla's five models occupied the top five, with Model Y topping the list with 62.4 recalls, 15.6 times the average. This was followed by Porsche Panamera, with 61.8recalls, 15.45 times the average. In third place was Tesla Model 3, with 56.8 recalls, 14.2 times the average. The fourth and fifth places were Tesla Model X and Model S, with recalls of 27.3times and 26.4times respectively, 6.83times and 6.6times of the average.

ISeeCars pointed out that the recall rate of Tesla's vehicles is high for two reasons. First, Tesla vehicles can fix some problems through OTA updates, but NHTSA still regards these problems as a recall. Second, Tesla vehicles continue to update the software over time, thus introducing new problems and recalls. Generally speaking, the older the vehicle, the less the number of recalls each year, but Tesla's vehicle does not quite conform to this rule.

In addition to Tesla and Porsche, other brands that underperformed in iSeeCars research include BMW, Gyibug, Ford, Lincoln, Dodge and Volkswagen, all of which have two or more models in the top 25 most recalled lists.

In contrast, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Toyota dominate the models with the fewest recalls in their expected 30-year life, with most of them averaging less than once, while the least is the MINI Cooper convertible, with 0.2 recalls.
