CTOnews.com, April 27 (Xinhua)-- Google is developing a "timeline location" feature for Android settings, similar to the one on Google Maps, which displays a user's historical location information in the form of a timeline.

According to the information found by the whistleblower Nail Sadykov, there is a hidden feature in Google's Google Play service. When enabled, you can see the "Timeline" option in the settings, which contains four options. The CTOnews.com summary is as follows:

"Your Timeline" used to view historical positioning and course of action

"Export Timeline data" for exporting backups of json files

"Delete Timeline data" used to delete timeline data

"Encrypted backup" used to transfer the timeline to another device

This feature is currently under development and is not yet available in a stable version of Android. Judging from the current features, this seems to be a local-only alternative to the Google Maps Timeline feature. This new feature can provide users with a more personal way to manage location history, but it is directly built into the Android system and involves a lot of privacy issues.
