CTOnews.com, April 27 (Xinhua) Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kerenius insisted in an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurt Daily that Mercedes would devote all its efforts to developing electric vehicles and would not invest in synthetic fuel technology, the so-called "e-fuel".

While governments around the world are putting in place rules proclaiming the end of internal combustion engine cars, some carmakers are trying to save traditional gasoline cars by using "electronic fuels". These include Porsche and BMW, which have even invested in synthetic fuel production centers, but not everyone believes it will be the savior of gasoline technology.

Karenius believes that electric vehicle technology is better than "electric fuel" in terms of power output, efficiency, durability and cost, and said that from 2025, all new vehicle architectures will be adjusted specifically for electric drive. He also pointed out that the popularity of electric cars requires the establishment of a sound charging infrastructure, which is also an area in which Mercedes is investing.

CTOnews.com noted that Kellenius' comments came as Mercedes-Benz accelerated its shift to electric cars. At present, Mercedes-Benz offers far more electric models than BMW, Audi and Porsche.

At the same time, Mercedes-Benz's top brand is redoubling its efforts to consolidate the auto giant's leading position. Recently, Mercedes-Maybach, the carmaker's ultra-luxury brand, launched its first electric model, the Maybach EQS SUV. In addition, AMG, the company's high-performance brand, has added more and more electric models to its product line and is expected to launch its first real electric sports car in the near future. Even the company's commercial division has launched its first electric products, including an electric semi-trailer and an electric van.
