Former employee was sentenced to 3 years in prison and compensated for defrauding Apple of 17 million US dollars.

CTOnews.com, April 28 (Xinhua) former Apple employee Dhidrenda Prasad was sentenced to three years in prison this week and ordered to pay more than $17 million in compensation to Apple (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 118 million yuan). Last November, Prasad admitted to conspiring with others to defraud and plot to defraud the U. S. government, stealing millions of dollars from Apple.

Prasad was a member of Apple's global service supply chain from 2008 to 2018, where he bought parts and services from suppliers to repair old equipment. In 2011, Prasad began accepting kickbacks, exaggerating invoices and stealing parts, causing Apple to pay for unreceived parts and services.

Two suppliers worked with Prasad to swindle money from Apple. His frauds include transferring illegal payments from suppliers to his creditors, deceiving Apple into paying twice for the same parts, and stealing parts purchased by Apple and reselling them to Apple through his conspirators. In total, he was convicted of stealing $17 million (currently about 118 million yuan) through mail and wire transfer fraud.

Prasad will confiscate nearly $5.5 million in assets that the government has seized and will have to pay another $8 million in fines. The $13.5 million forfeiture was in addition to the $17 million he had to pay to Apple and the $1.8 million he owed the IRS.

After serving three years in prison, he will be subject to another three years of supervised release.
