Apple celebrates the 20th Anniversary of iTunes Music Store launch
CTOnews.com, April 29 (Xinhua)-- Apple celebrates the 20th anniversary of the launch of the iTunes Music Store, when it launched a "99 cents per song download" campaign for Mac users.
At the beginning of its launch, iTunes Music Store integrated more than 200000 songs from music brands such as Sony, Universal and Warner, all of which can be tried for 30 seconds.
Pirated music was rampant and music was shared through peer-to-peer file sharing programs such as LimeWire and KaZaA. Apple's iTunes Music Store provides users with a quick way to listen to music, curbing the development of piracy to some extent.
CTOnews.com Note: Apple expanded its iTunes and online music store to the Windows platform in October 2003. Apple said at the time that customers had bought more than 13 million songs from iTunes Music Store, making it "the number one music download service in the world".
