Ukraine has approved Microsoft's $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Daniel Wu in South China, rain and snow for the delivery of clues! CTOnews.com, April 30, Ukraine's antitrust commission announced that it approved Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $69 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 478.17 billion yuan).
Ukrainian regulators said that because Microsoft and Activision Blizzard did not provide cloud gaming services in Ukraine. Therefore, the concerns expressed by the UK Competition and Market Authority and the reasons for the ban on concentration in the UK have nothing to do with assessing its impact on competition in the Ukrainian market.
It also means that Ukraine has become the seventh country to approve Activision Blizzard after Japan, Chile, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Serbia and South Africa.
This week, the Competition and Markets Authority said it decided to block the deal because of fears that "the future of the changed cloud gaming market will lead to fewer innovation and fewer choices". At present, Microsoft and Activision Blizzard have confirmed that they have appealed the ruling, the former calling it "bad for the UK" and the latter calling it "irrational".
Neither company offers cloud gaming services in Ukraine, so the country's competition regulator will not consider this.
Microsoft announced on Friday that it has signed a 10-year agreement with Spanish cloud gaming platform Nware to provide Xbox PC games and Activision Blizzard games to more platforms upon completion of the acquisition, aimed at allaying regulatory concerns about its acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
