Linux Mint 21.2 and LMDE 6 will be launched within a month.
CTOnews.com May 3 news, the Linux Mint team showed some new notifications and tooltip topics in early May and explained the release schedule; it also announced that there was a problem with secure startup, and that the new installation should now be completed with secure startup disabled.
The Linux Mint team has not yet released plans for Linux Mint 21.2 and LMDE 6, but their release dates are close. LMDE is an acronym for Linux Mint Debian Edition and a new version will be released after the major version of Debian. Debian 12 will be released in June, so LMDE 6 will follow.
According to the blog post, LMDE 6 will be released after Linux Mint 21.2, with a rough estimate of June when the EDGE ISO version is Linux kernel 5.19. Linux Mint is usually released after a 2-week test period.
In recent years, the Mint team has focused on modernizing Cinnamon desktops, which are used by default in Linux Mint. In May this year, the team decided to show new tooltips and notifications using user-selected accent colors, an enhancement that gives users more control over their desktops. However, according to the comments section of the blog, some visually impaired users do not like the change, saying that the text is too difficult to read.
One user complained about new notifications and tooltips and suggested changing them to optional options.
Finally, for users planning to install Linux Mint, it is recommended that you turn off secure startup. Canonical has updated Ubuntu's shim-signed package, which supports secure startup, which is now not available for Ubuntu derivatives. The Linux Mint team is working on a fix for future ISO, but for now only need to disable secure startup.
