CTOnews.com May 3 news, Alipay today released the first 3 days of May Day holiday consumption insight (April 29-May 1). Official figures show that the number of holiday payments rose 230 per cent year-on-year, while consumption increased 200 per cent year-on-year and 70 per cent year-on-year in 2019.

Central Huaihai Road in Shanghai, Wangfujing pedestrian Street in Beijing, Ciqikou in Chongqing, Tower Street in Guangzhou and Zibo are popular business circles in China. The amount of consumer spending in Zibo barbecue restaurant soared by more than 5 times, driving the increase of hotel consumption by more than 2 times.

The number of payments using Alipay in the first three days of short holiday increased by 230% compared with the same period last year, and reached 2.2 times that of 2019. In Alipay to find "rental car" self-driving travel, looking for "charging" service is 2.4 times and 3 times that of the same period in 2022 respectively. This year, the number of sweaty tourists on the road has also increased by 1.5 times compared with the same period last year, and the love of cycling among Shanghainese ranks first in the country.

The per capita consumption of outbound travel during the May Day holiday increased by 40% compared with the same period in 2019. Among the major destination markets, Alipay overseas consumption in Asia is growing the fastest. Hong Kong, China remains the most popular tourist destination, followed by Macau, Japan, Thailand and South Korea.

Hangzhou West Lake, Xixi Wetland, Changsha Yuelu Mountain, Nanjing Confucius Temple, Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, Taishan, Wuhan Yellow Crane Tower, Jinhua Hengdian, Shennong Mountain and Xi'an Big Wild Goose Pagoda are Top10 hot spots during this year's short holiday.
