CTOnews.com May 7 news, Nintendo recently launched a number of DMCA (Digital Copyright Millennium Act) removal requests for GitHub, including a popular tool called Lockpick.

Lockpick is a tool that allows users to export keys from their Switch consoles, which can be used to decrypt important information about game data and system files. Nintendo believes that this tool infringes its copyright and intellectual property rights, so it asked GitHub to remove the relevant code repository.

However, this move has caused dissatisfaction and opposition from many Switch users and developers. They believe Nintendo is too harsh and overbearing, does not respect the legitimate rights of users, and does not understand the spirit of the open source community. They point out that tools such as Lockpick are not meant to pirate or crack games, but rather to allow users the freedom to back up and manage their own game data and system files. Moreover, these tools can only export keys from the user's own Switch, not from elsewhere, so there is no material loss to Nintendo.

Currently, GitHub has removed codebases for tools such as Lockpick at Nintendo's request, but there are other similar tools and projects that have not been affected.
