With the advent of a new generation of IVF technology in China, the live birth rate has doubled to 72%.

CTOnews.com May 8, according to Shandong Shanxi University Reproductive Medicine Research Center, on May 8, 2023, the research group of Chen Zijiang and Gao Yuan of the Reproductive Medicine Research Center of Shandong University, in cooperation with Professor Liu Jiang of Beijing Genome Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences, published the original research results entitled "A clinical study of preimplantation DNA methylation screening in assisted reproductive technology" online in Cell Research magazine (area I of Chinese Academy of Sciences, IF: 46.297).

According to reports, since the birth of the first test-tube baby, more than 1000 babies worldwide have been born through assisted reproductive technology. The selection of appropriate embryo transfer is one of the key factors to determine the success rate of assisted reproductive technology, but at present, embryo screening is mainly based on morphological indicators, and its live birth rate still can not meet the expectations of doctors and patients. Therefore, how to further improve the birth rate of IVF and reduce the abortion rate is an urgent problem to be solved in clinic.

This result uses epigenetic information, namely DNA methylation index, to select embryos (PIMS). The clinical live birth rate of embryos with high methylation level is 72%, which is much higher than the current global target of less than 30% of assisted reproductive live births.

Shandong Shanda Reproductive Medicine Research Center said that PIMS is a new generation of IVF embryo screening technology and a new breakthrough in the field of reproductive genetics, which has successfully completed technology transfer.
