AI cameras will be installed on British highways to capture people throwing rubbish from car windows
CTOnews.com, May 11 (Xinhua) in order to crack down on littering on highways, artificial intelligence cameras will be installed in parking areas on some highways. The cameras can automatically identify and photograph littering from car windows and send pictures to law enforcement officials, who can face a fine of up to £100 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about Rmb875).
The pilot project, launched by the National Highway Authority (National Highways), will save law enforcement officers hours of CCTV footage and will first be put into use in south-east England.
The problem of littering on British highways has attracted more and more attention, and Clean Britain (Clean Up Britain) said in February that it would take legal action against the National Highway Administration if the littering situation does not improve. John Read, the group's founder, said the latest approach was another "pointless act", which sounded good, but "always came to nothing".
In February, an Amazon driver shared how the company's artificial intelligence camera system was used to monitor driver behavior during delivery shifts, from taking a sip of coffee to not wearing a seat belt.
