Dell withdrew its telecommuting commitment to require employees to work at least three days a week

CTOnews.com May 11 news, after the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, Dell has supported employees to work remotely from home, and claimed that this can improve efficiency and flexibility. Recently, however, dell has reversed course and is requiring employees to return to the office at least three days a week, a stark contrast to a senior executive's promise three years ago that most employees would always telecommute.

Dell chief operating officer jeff clark sent an internal email to employees this week asking employees who live within an hour's drive of dell's main office to come to the office at least three days out of five, in sharp contrast to an executive's promise three years ago that most employees would always telecommute, The Register reported.

"We want more people working in mixed mode," Clark wrote in an internal email. Employees who live within an hour's drive of Dell's office should come to the office at least three days a week. We are still flexible-you can consult with your leadership and work out within that framework the timing that best suits you and your business. "

Clark also said he understands employees need time to adjust to returning to office life, and that this is the beginning of Dell's clearly defined hybrid work model. He expects employees close to the office to arrange their own plans as soon as possible.

CTOnews.com notes that this policy contradicts comments Dell CEO Michael Dell made on LinkedIn last year. At the time, michael dell criticized executives who complained that telecommuting affected teamwork and corporate culture and told them,"you're doing it wrong." He also said that recalling employees back to the office would not solve these problems.
