Were there ever surging rivers on Mars? New evidence found by NASA perseverance probe

CTOnews.com, May 14 (Xinhua) NASA's perseverance rover landed two years ago in the Jazelo crater on Mars, which planetary scientists believe was once rich in water. Now, scientists at NASA may have found evidence of a "surging river" here.

This evidence, as shown in the image below, shows curved rocks made up of larger, rougher sediments that show strong currents on Mars in the past. "these show a high-energy river that can carry a lot of detritus. The stronger the current, the easier it is to move larger matter." Libby Elvis, a researcher at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a statement.

Scientists have seen these curved shapes from space before, and the six-wheel drive perseverance probe allows them to take a closer look, according to CTOnews.com. This mosaic picture consists of 203 pictures. These curves may be due to changes in river banks, or sandbars formed after billions of years of wind-blown sand erosion.

Overall, there is clear evidence in the Martian desert that Mars used to be a water-rich world, including dry lakes, dry streams, and even ancient waves.

However, there is no evidence of life on Mars. In fact, NASA's probe has detected organic matter on Mars, but there is no indication that primitive microbes have ever lived on the Martian surface (although underground has not yet been explored). Looking for signs of life on Mars is one of the main tasks of the perseverance rover. A good place to explore is in areas where there was once water, and perhaps a deep and vibrant river.
