CTOnews.com May 16, Bloomberg reported that people familiar with the matter revealed that Tesla is close to the final stage of starting trial production of its modified Model 3 sedan in Shanghai, which is Elon Musk's bet on the new electric car, aiming to compete more effectively with Chinese car brands.

People familiar with the matter, who declined to be named, said the modified Model 3 was Tesla's first mass-market electric car aimed at driving the company's profits, slightly longer than previous versions, more sporty and more stylish interior design.

Reported that Tesla Shanghai factory phase I production line will be shut down for a few days at the end of this month for rectification, in preparation for new car trial production. Since early May, some workers at the Shanghai plant have been required to keep their phones in dedicated lockers outside the production line to avoid leaking details of new cars. Insiders involved in the project said the goal of the change was to reduce production costs, as well as adjustments to the appearance and powertrain.

Tesla officials have not responded to the report.

The high-performance version comes standard with 20-inch wheels and a range of 507 kilometers.
