According to the latest filing, Berkshire Hathaway closed its stake in TSMC in the first quarter of this year after significantly reducing its stake in TSMC by 86% in the fourth quarter of last year.

Berkshire Hathaway invested more than $4 billion in TSMC last year, but has now liquidated its holdings by lightning. Earlier this month, CTOnews.com reported that Buffett was asked at a shareholders' meeting in May why he had reduced his stake in TSMC. He said bluntly that the location of TSMC was his main consideration in adjusting his investment strategy. Mr. Buffett said he preferred to allocate capital in Japan rather than Taiwan. But Buffett still praised TSMC as a great company, one of the best-managed and most important companies in the world, and "no one can compare with it in the chip industry."

TSMC's US-listed shares have risen nearly 14.5 per cent so far this year.
