Security experts warn: beware of fraudsters using Google .zip and .mov domain names for phishing
CTOnews.com, May 18 / PRNewswire-FirstCall-Asianet /-- Google launched several domain names earlier this month for fathers, graduates and technicians, including .zip and .mov. Security researcher Bobby Rauch recently warned that industry insiders should be wary of fraudsters using these top-level domain names for phishing.
Rauch posts on Medium, and CTOnews.com shares two examples here:
Can you tell the difference between https://github.com ∕ kubernetes ∕ kubernetes ∕ archive ∕ refs ∕ tags ∕ @ v1271.zip https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/archive/refs/tags/v1.27.1.zip, one pointing to the Zip file and the other pointing to the .zip top-level domain?
The first link directs the user to the https://v1271.zip site, which the fraudster can use to spread malware. Even experienced netizens may be infected as a result.
