Security researcher Bobby Rauch recently warned that industry insiders should be wary of fraudsters using these top-level domain names for phishing.

Can you tell the difference between https://github.com ∕ kubernetes ∕ kubernetes ∕ archive ∕ refs ∕ tags ∕ @ v1271.zip https://github.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/archive/refs/tags/v1.27.1.zip, one pointing to the Zip file and the other pointing to the .zip top-level domain?

The first link directs the user to the https://v1271.zip site, which the fraudster can use to spread malware. Even experienced netizens may be infected as a result.
