Google had planned to introduce a combination of apps in Android 12, which would allow users to launch two apps at once and enter split-screen mode. However, this feature eventually did not appear in Android 12, but it is likely to be implemented in Android 14, which will be released later this year.

According to Mishaal Rahman, an Android expert, Google has added a new launcher flag to Android 14 Beta 2 to enable the "Save App portfolio" option, which is hidden in the split menu in the recent app view. Currently, enabling this hidden flag has no effect, indicating that the feature is not fully ready. After this function is completed, users should be able to use the option of "Save Application portfolio" to create a desktop shortcut, launch two applications directly and enter split-screen mode.

Compared with mobile phones, application composition is more useful for devices such as Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, whose large screens provide ideal space for using multiple applications at the same time. CTOnews.com notes that Samsung already offers similar app combinations on its flagship Galaxy S and Tab devices. Even Microsoft offers similar features on its Surface Duo series.
