CTOnews.com May 20, Apple today released iOS / iPadOS 16.6 Beta 1 update. After the update, netizens found the relevant option of iMessage contact key authentication (Contact Key Verification) in the settings app, but the function has not yet taken effect.

It is not clear why it does not work. Other settings such as the Security key (Security Keys) may need to be enabled, or Apple may not have completed the deployment of the feature.

CTOnews.com previously reported that Apple announced the iMessage contact key authentication feature in December last year to help iPhone users verify the identity of the other person they are communicating with.

After starting the iMessage contact key authentication, the user is only allowed to send and receive information with the contacts authenticated by the host. Users will be alerted if state-backed attackers or other malicious actors successfully hack into the cloud server and their own devices to eavesdrop on conversations.

Once the iMessage Contact Key Verification feature is enabled, users can ask to match Contact Verification Code on FaceTime or other secure calls to further verify that they are only communicating with the people they want.
