However, the problem seems to be limited to hard drives manufactured for some time at the end of 2022 and seems to mainly affect 4TB models. Xisu told ArsTechnica that they would release new firmware updates to address its SanDisk Extreme and Extreme Pro SSD reliability issues.

"Western Digital has learned of reports that some customers are experiencing problems using 4TB SanDisk Extreme and / or Extreme Pro removable hard drives (SDSSDE61-4T00 and SDSSDE81-4T00, respectively)." However, Western Digital did not say when the update would be available, nor did it say whether it was also being fixed for the 2TB model.
