The battery, developed by Hyundai Nanyang Research Center, has a battery capacity of up to 10Ah, the report said. This is a high nickel lithium battery, in order to achieve higher battery capacity, the use of new materials to increase the content of nickel. The battery pack uses a bag-shaped battery pack package suitable for hybrid vehicles. CTOnews.com query found that Hyundai Motor Company has been developing hybrid vehicle batteries since 2020, and has set up a battery production line in Nanyang Research Center, which is expected to be mass produced through Hyundai Motor's joint venture battery plant with LG New Energy or SK On in the future.

For the whole of 2022, Hyundai and Kia hybrid sales totaled 300000, still lagging behind arch-rival Toyota's 2.7 million. Analysts point out that Hyundai hopes to enhance the competitiveness of hybrid vehicles in the market and establish a stable battery supply chain through independent research and development of HEV batteries.
