CTOnews.com May 23, according to Reuters, Kevin Zhang, senior vice president of TSMC, told reporters on Tuesday that negotiations to build a chip manufacturing plant in Germany are still under way and a decision will be made as early as August.
"I think we need to provide a diversified supply to our customers. Europe is a very important geographical area," Kevin Zhang said.
Kevin Zhang did not disclose the scale or cost of subsidies for potential projects or the names of participating companies. A spokesman for the German Ministry of Economic Affairs confirmed to Reuters that negotiations with TSMC were still ongoing, but did not provide details.
It was reported earlier this month that TSMC is in talks with partners to invest as much as 10 billion euros (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 76.1 billion yuan) to build a chip manufacturing plant in Germany.
