CTOnews.com, May 26 / PRNewswire-Asianet /-- Chip maker MediaTek has become a major player in the smartphone, tablet and Chromebook markets in recent years, and it now seems that the company also wants to expand its influence in e-readers.

E-Ink, a maker of electronic paper displays, has announced "enhanced cooperation with MediaTek" to jointly develop chips for e-book readers using E-Ink displays.

The announcement did not specify, but pointed out that MediaTek's chips could support devices with black-and-white or color e-ink displays.

MediaTek's e-reader solution combines one of the company's system-on-a-chip solutions designed for tablets with Yuantai's hardware timing controller.

The announcement also mentioned details about MediaTek's current e-reader solution: the MT8113 processor, a chip used in Amazon's Kindle Scribe devices, features a 10.3-inch E-Ink display and supports stylus input, but Amazon and MediaTek have not shared many details about the processor.

CTOnews.com note: according to the E Ink press release, MediaTek MT8113 uses the 12nm process, is equipped with dual-core 2GHz CPU, supports LPDDR4 memory, and integrates Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth support for battery life of more than 10 weeks in standby mode.
