CTOnews.com May 27, the British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) released a report today, saying that Meta promised it that it would not use advertising data obtained from competitors to improve Facebook Marketplace.

CMA launched an investigation in June 2021, alleging unfair competition in Meta's Facebook Marketplace service.

CMA believes that Meta bundles Facebook Marketplace services with Facebook, a major social network, to create a "substantial distribution advantage" over competitors.

Facebook has billions of monthly active users worldwide and millions of active advertisers. CMA believes that Facebook users will automatically access Marketplace whether they like it or not.

Facebook Marketplace is a platform for discovering and buying goods, but publishing goods for sale is not the same as creating paid ads to show to Marketplace shoppers. By creating Marketplace ads, you can promote your business to more users on the shopping platform.

CTOnews.com Note: however, this promise will not be fulfilled immediately. Meta's promise will take effect within December, or June 30, 2024, whichever is later.
