CTOnews.com May 29, KDE Plasma 6 Desktop Environment series will support night color function, automatically adjust screen color temperature, and provide NVIDIA card users with a better reading experience when using Plasma Wayland sessions for a long time at night.

The KDE Plasma 6 desktop environment has previously promised to support basic HDR and will adopt Plasma Wayland by default.

KDE developer Nate Graham has now revealed that Plasma 6 will bring another feature contributed by Xaver Hugl, which is to run the night color function on Wayland for users using NVIDIA graphics cards.

However, the night color feature of Plasma 6 is not as efficient as expected at first, but it is expected to work normally. Now developers have adopted other different methods, "but not very efficient." it is hoped that NVIDIA can release updated drivers to support the necessary Gamma LUT features.

The KDE Plasma 6 desktop environment will bring many new features, including a default floating panel, double-click to open files, a new default task switcher, a unified desktop plug-in, better handling of keyboard backlighting, and more.

CTOnews.com Note: in addition to the expected release of KDE Plasma 6, the KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS desktop environment series will be launched on June 20, 2023 and is expected to lead to a more stable and reliable desktop experience.
