CTOnews.com noted that this is not the first time Toyota has had a data breach. Toyota confirmed in 2022 that data from nearly 300000 customers, including e-mail addresses and customer management numbers assigned by Toyota to each customer, were leaked online after a company developer posted T-Connect source code on GitHub.

In addition, in a statement on May 12, 2023, Toyota revealed that due to "misconfiguration of the cloud environment", customer data in Japan has been publicly accessible since 2012.
